Beautiful Finish Work Follows Installs

Have you gotten the memo that Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard does beautiful carpentry and finish work? Well, check your Inbox — and this website blog — because the word is out: Our boatyard crew does top quality installations followed by the finest in finish work.
Carl Conner, yacht rigger, experienced carpenter and expert fiberglass laminator, has been leading the project for a new water tank installation on a 50-foot Sea Ray at Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard. Thirsty Duck’s owners brought the sleek motor yacht in when they noticed that her water tank was leaking. Carl got right to work on the job and now he is putting the finishing touches on his elegant craftsmanship.

He first had to cut out wall panels in the salon in order to open up the Sea Ray’s floor to access the tank. Next came drilling out the foam packing that surrounds and supports the water tank so he could remove it. Then he installed the new water tank and put in new foam packing to support it.
Next it was time for Carl’s talent in carpentry and finish work — and more of the stubborn work ethic he is known for: perseverance until perfection. (Boat-owners, there’s another memo out on the crew at Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard: they are highly skilled craftsmen who are proud of their work.)

Carl was now in the reconstruction stage on Thirsty Duck. He built new hatches, then he faired the floor and removed four door jambs and doors for the floor to be finished. When I was aboard earlier this week admiring his work, he was in the process of building and finishing oak trim pieces for the rebuilt wall panel. He was also getting ready to install three hatch handles, routing out precise spaces in the new laminate flooring to inset them perfectly and cleanly.
“It’s just shipwright work,” he said with the casualness of someone for whom such skills are no big deal. “They’ll be routed in and made pretty.”
Made pretty, but more importantly, made right. It’s all part of the quality experience you’ll have at Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard. The memo has been sent.
