Boat Maintenance and Repair in Gig Harbor
Where can I take my boat in the Gig Harbor area for reliable maintenance and repairs? Well, it all depends on what sort of work it requires. Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard is the only full service facility with a 50 Ton Metric Travelift for hauling boats out of the water. We can accommodate sail and power boats up to 60′ long and 19′ on the beam. Centrally located in Puget Sound just west of Tacoma Narrows Bridge, we are very easy to find whether you are traveling via land or sea. You can find us at 3117 Harborview Drive at the corner of Pioneer and Harborview in Gig Harbor’s Historic Waterfront, or Latitude 47’ 19’50 N Longitude 122’34’50 W.
The boatyard started out in 1905 as Skansie Ship Building Company primarily working on fishing boats, and then moved into ship building and repairs of the first Washington State Ferries. Today our highly skilled staff can work on a wide variety of marine related problems and maintenance issues. Some of the services we provide are troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems/engines, electrical work, fiberglass and gelcoat repairs, rigging, plumbing, bottom painting, inspection of running gear including zincs, installing bow and stern thrusters, woodworking and general maintenance including buffing and waxing…to name a few!

What do I need to do to prepare my boat for lifting? Excellent question. First, find out where the lifting points are on your boat. If you have a picture of your last haul out that will be helpful for the boatyard to have, as well as the approximate weight of the boat. Bring in all fenders and any equipment and lines that could become tangled with the lifting straps. You may also want to pull up any protruding speed logs. We strive to maintain our schedule as close as possible but since we’re dealing with boats and “mother nature” I would recommend calling us prior to your appointment time to confirm we’re on schedule for your lift out.

I did not realize that barnacle buster was so good at helping with boat repair. What a neat idea. I will try this on my boat. http://www.bandemarinenj.com/Boat-Detailing-Wildwood-NJ.html
Kerrie, I like the tip about finding lifting points to save time. I would like the process to go as smoothly as possible, so I guess I’ll read through the owner’s manual. I think bringing in all the lines is a good idea too. I haven’t gotten my worked on in a while, so hopefuly it goes well. http://www.stemicmarine.com/residential_docks_boatlifts.html
I really appreciate the point you make about using Barnicle Buster to take care of my clogged pipes and air conditioning. We have had a lot of issues with that on my boat recently. I think I will try this and see if my pipes get unclogged. http://mccartymarine.com/?page_id=12
I have a 16Ft Rendova with 50HP Yamaha. I need some electrical work. No power to some accessories. I want to put in a second battery so I can instal electric down riggers. Might as well have the engine serviced and checked out.
If this is too small of a job for you please recommend a marine repair specialist in Gig Harbor. I can bring the boat on a trailer or if you prefer, my boat has a 3 point lifting harness.
Thank you for contacting us and your patience. I have passed your request onto my service manager. He should be in contact with you soon.

This is some really good information about boat maintenance. I liked what you said about how you can check your AC and if it has a clogged. My father has been considering getting a boat and I know that he would want the AC to work. My brother wouldn’t want to get on a boat that doesn’t have a form of AC on it.
Good day Kerrie! I really like the tip about finding lifting points to save time. You really have great knowledge of Boat Maintenance. Keep posting.
