Be of Good Cheer with Harbor Holiday Festivities

We have decked our hall — or our service shed, anyway — with our huge wreath here at Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard, and we are ready for the festive holiday happenings taking place around the harbor this Christmas season.

First up: This weekend is Gig Harbor’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Saturday, followed by the heart-warming community caroling event, “Hark! The Harbor” on Sunday.

Gig Harbor Christmas Tree Lighting

Saturday, Dec. 7 – 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.

Holiday events

The City of Gig Harbor’s Annual Christmas Tree Lighting is this Saturday, Dec. 7, at Skansie Brothers Park. Share the holiday spirit with friends and neighbors with free hot cocoa, cider and cookies at the Skansie Netshed, courtesy of Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance. Visit with the Tacoma Rainiers‘ mascot Rhubarb the Reindeer and enjoy holiday tunes from Spectrum Choral Academy – Youth and Children’s Chorus.

It all leads up to Santa arriving via fire truck to help count down to lighting the Christmas tree in Skansie Brothers Park. Join the community for this festive and fun official kickoff of the holiday season.

‘Hark! The Harbor’ Christmas Caroling

Sunday, Dec. 8 – 6:15 to 7:15 p.m.

Hark the holidays

Come down to the waterfront again on Sunday, Dec. 8 for Hark! The Harbor at 6:15 p.m. This magical evening of community caroling at the Skansie Brothers Park Pavilion is brought to us by the Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance. Sharon Stearnes will again be leading the singing accompanied by her “magic” keyboard and singers. Songbooks and candles will be provided.

Then, at approximately 6:50 p.m., experience the exciting arrival of the Argosy Christmas Ship, aglow with beautiful lights. The Olympia Youth Choir, Cantabile, will be on board to serenade us with festive music.

And one more thing, hints the Waterfront Alliance on its Facebook page: “We will likely sing “Here Comes Santa Claus” because guess who else will be there!”
