Giving Tuesday

An Opportunity to Support Downtown Gig Harbor

“Giving Tuesday,” the world’s largest day of global giving, is on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020. We join in asking you to please consider supporting the Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance in accomplishing its vital mission: bringing together the community, encouraging economic vitality and preserving our historic character.

“The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has challenged the Alliance to look for new ways to accomplish that mission and continue to help our downtown businesses survive,” says the Waterfront Alliance in its promotional postings for Giving Tuesday. “Please help us keep our downtown the way we all love it.”

As we all know, most of the Alliance’s regular fundraising avenues have been curtailed in 2020. Our year-end support of these community-enriching endeavors is more important than ever.

“Giving Tuesday, the world’s largest day of global giving, is just around the corner,” said the Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance on Facebook. “It’s a wave of generosity and kindness. At a time when we are all experiencing the pandemic, generosity gives us the power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is what brings us all together.”

In lieu of the many activities and events the Waterfront Alliance typically holds each year, here are a few ways this hard-working group has been supporting our downtown businesses:

·        Communication of Covid-19 related resources and funding opportunities to downtown businesses through our website and our new Main Street Connection group on Facebook.
Gig Harbor SAFE HARBOR program providing businesses with plenty of sanitizer and signage encouraging safe social distance practices for the public.
·        The Waterfront Farmers Market held on 14 Thursdays throughout the summer, adjusted to adhere to all Covid-related regulations.
·        Make A Difference Day, a partnership with the Rotary Clubs of Gig Harbor to encourage shopping at specific downtown business over 19 consecutive Saturdays.
·        Scarecrow Festival with PenMet Parks encouraging both in-person and virtual downtown visits.
·        Treasures on the Waterfront video series highlighting the businesses, people and places on the downtown waterfront, and featured on our website, Youtube and Facebook.
·        Passport to the Holidays, our month-long shopping and dining promotion.
·        Deck the Harbor/Snowman decorating contest to encourage downtown visits, shopping and dining/take-out.
·        Ongoing social media promotion supporting downtown businesses active on social media
·        Business Resource Series providing an opportunity for businesses to share relevant Covid-related topics.
