Guesthouse ‘Paradise’ While Boat in for Service

It’s “Just Another Day in Paradise” for one customer at Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard. He has some pretty nice waterfront digs while his 34-foot sailboat is on the yard for service.

Hartwell Champagne normally lives aboard his Pacific Seacraft 34, so what’s a guy to do when his home is up on blocks at a boatyard for service and repair? Choose a marina with a beautiful guest suite, of course, and that’s exactly what this sailor did.

Champagne is staying at The Guesthouse @ The Boatyard while Ocean Rambler is in for service and new parts at Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard.

“It’s ‘Just Another Day in Paradise’ here,” says marina owner and general manager Ron Roark, referring to the saying that greets visitors at the front door of the guest suite. “We’re here to serve.”

Champagne is vice president and general manager at SAFE Boats International and lives aboard his sleek cruising yacht in Tacoma. He came to the right place for excellent marine service and repair — and for a gorgeous place to stay during the work.  Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard has it all with a topnotch boatyard crew for your boat and beautiful guest accommodations for you while you wait.

John Iverson, a skilled boatwright at the downtown Gig Harbor boatyard, is replacing the Pacific Seacraft’s radar and wind instruments, its depth and speed transducers, and removing and reinstalling the mast. The boatyard crew is also servicing the sailboat’s max prop, a full feathering propeller, which they will take apart, clean, grease and put back together, said Mark Lindeman, boatyard manager. Finally, they’re doing a general bottom inspection and possible bottom painting.
