Harbor Aglow with Holiday Cheer

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Gig Harbor has been like a coastal Currier & Ives Christmas card this holiday season. Maybe no horse-drawn carriages gliding through drifted snow, but plenty of sparkling boats, a glowing waterfront of decorations and old-fashioned caroling events creating good cheer.

The Gig Harbor Downtown Watefront Alliance has set a heart-warming scene this month with its “It’s a Wonderful Waterfront” line-up of holiday events.

First, there was the Christmas Tree Lighting with hot chocolate, cookies and carols in Skansie Brothers Park, and then Holiday Hayrides with Santa rolled jollily through downtown.

Lighted BoatsThe next evening, the harbor was aglow with the Gig Harbor Yacht Club’s fantastic Lighted Boat Parade with more than 35 boats circling the harbor in holiday splendor.

Finally, the community turned out for caroling in the park while awaiting the arrival of the stunning Argosy Christmas Ship on Dec. 9. As the spectacular lighted ship entered the harbor, carolers on board filled the waterfront with joyful sounds of Christmas.

The holiday happenings in the harbor are still going on, so come downtown and enjoy “Shopping Small” and seeing the decorations on local businesses.

Don’t forget to vote for your favorite decorated business in the Deck the Harbor contest…
