The Gig Harbor Canoe & Kayak Race Team brought their 40-foot outrigger canoe in for bottom paint recently. Paint supervisor Doug Terrian, above, took care of the team’s lean and lengthy racing boat with white epoxy, anti-fouling bottom paint and fresh top-side paint.

“Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard is very supportive of the Canoe & Kayak Race Team,” said boatyard manager Mark Lindeman. “We enjoy working closely with director Holm Schmidt.”

Travelift operator Mark Rybin hauled out this beautiful Navigator 58, Islandia, for a pre-sale survey. When it came out of the water, it became apparent that the stately yacht needed bottom service, Lindeman said.

“The bottom was covered with heavy marine growth,” he said. “So our diligent crew scraped and pressure-washed her bottom in preparation for sanding and bottom paint. We’ll paint the bottom, clean the running gear and perform various maintenance tasks and some repairs to facilitate the sale.”

Customer Brad Bailey brought his 43-foot Silverton Sport Bridge, Escapade, to Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard for a new generator.

“Our boatyard crew removed the old generator and made the necessary modifications to the electrical and plumbing prior to installing a new 9 kilowatt Northern Lights generator,” said Lindeman. “To make access for getting the old generator out, we had to remove eight L16 deep cycle batteries. Jeff (Neuwirth) and his helpers had to eat their spinach to lift those bad boys.”

This Catalina 27 was on the hard for a quick turn-around bottom job, said the boatyard manager. The paint crew scraped, sanded and painted the bottom of the graceful sailboat.
