Gig Harbor Native Hanne Weaver Sets Sights on 2020 Olympics
It’s been a summer of Olympic dreams for Gig Harbor water sport athletes. First, canoe and kayak paddlers from around the region made the harbor their home as they trained with the Gig Harbor Canoe and Kayak Racing Team to secure the club’s seventh national championship. Their performance qualifies many of the paddlers for the Olympic Hopes Regatta in Slovakia next month.
Now we’re helping spread the word about another harbor athlete with Olympic aspirations. World-class laser sailor Hanne Weaver has her eye on the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. The Gig Harbor native shared a media kit this week in which she is seeking sponsorship to help her reach her Olympic goals.

“Hello, I’m Hanne Weaver!” she introduces herself in her media kit. “I began sailing at a early age in my hometown of Gig Harbor, Wash. I began competing in regattas when I was just eight years old.
“I’m on the path to represent the United States in the 2020 Olympics. Sailing is in my blood, beginning with my grandpa who sailed in Denmark. Sailing is truly my passion and training for the Olympics is my lifetime dream. Being on the water, totally free — yet in control — is my perfect place. I hope you’ll follow along on my journey.
“I am now training for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, fully committing my time and effort to representing the United States as a part of the U.S.
