New Technician at Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard

There is a new technician on board at Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard and he brings with him years of experience in marine service and repair. He is mechanical and electrical systems technician Lenny Mason, who joined the talented boatyard crew in mid-January.

“He can also do shipwright work,” said Boatyard Manager Mark Lindeman. “He’s basically a jack of all trades.”

Mason hasn’t stopped moving since he started at Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard, hurrying between the shop and a sailboat moored far down on A Dock, where he is working on brass fittings deep in the boat’s engine compartment.

“I know how important it is to get these jobs finished,” said Mason as he walked rapidly up the dock to use the large vise in the shop.  The technician, who will soon turn 38, was operations manager at Shurtz Marine Enterprises in Olympia from 2005-2013.

“I’m excited to be here, ” he said, as he pulled on the vise handle to loosen the brass fittings. “The people, the management, it’s a good boatyard — and very pretty, too,” he added, looking out across the harbor.

Mason got his start in marine service by doing small engine repair when he was younger, and then he opened Mason Marine Services in Olympia in 2007.  Along the way, he “fell in love with sailing” out of the Olympia Yacht Club and was recruited as race crew.

He is currently commuting to Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard from Tacoma, where he lives aboard his boat, SeaDreamer, a Bruce Roberts designed Offshore 44. But he hopes to move the two-masted, steel-hulled ketch to Gig Harbor in the near future.

“I love that old boat,” Mason said. “It’s my own Golden Gate Bridge — I’m always painting it. As soon as I’m finished I start over again.”

Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard has the experience and talent you expect for your own boat’s service and repair needs.
