Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard Has Bulkhead Work Done

Weather, erosion and time take their toll on a waterfront and it’s no different at the boatyard — especially one this old.

Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard dates back to 1905 when it began as Skansie’s Ship Building Company, and although our bulkhead isn’t quite that old, it was time to address Mother Nature’s handiwork again.

Erosion between the older wooden bulkhead and the ecology blocks in front of it was causing gravel and other aggregate to wash into the harbor leaving pockets in the seawall, said Yard Manager Hartwell Champagne.

So the boatyard had a crew on hand this week with a crane setting in stout new wall blocks and huge bagfuls of backfill.
