Roche Harbor Yacht Club Coming to the Harbor
Gig Harbor is welcoming the Roche Harbor Yacht Club on its cruise to our “excellent little bay” on April 12 and 13.
That’s how Wilkes Expedition explorers described Gig Harbor when they rowed into the harbor’s well-hidden opening in 1841, and the description still fits today. Always a popular cruise destination for Puget Sound boaters, “excellent” Gig Harbor bay is sure to be a hit with the folks from Roche Harbor.
Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard welcomes this visiting yacht club from San Juan Island. We are honored to host the cruisers as they hold their annual meeting here at The Academy @ the Boatyard.
Gig Harbor Welcomes the Roche Harbor Yacht Club
The Roche Harbor Yacht Club, which has about 200 members, is one of the oldest yacht clubs in Washington, according to its Facebook group page. It celebrated its centennial in 2006.
About 45 boats are coming down from the San Juans, say organizers. Yacht club cruisers will tie up in local marinas and also raft together out in the harbor. They will enjoy strolling along our waterfront and visiting our shops, restaurants, taprooms, boutiques and galleries.
So, Gig Harbor, be sure to extend a warm welcome to these guests in our excellent little bay.
