Second Wave Marine Repair and Consignment Store is Now Taking in Sellers’ Items

Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard’s new marine consignment and repair facility is getting closer to opening and store staff is busy taking in items and starting the cataloging process.

Second Wave @ the Boatyard, our soon-to-open marine repair and consignment store at 3720 Harborview Drive in Gig Harbor is now accepting boaters’ clean, gently used (or easily repairable) marine equipment, says store manager Gary Ford.

“Generally, we would like to see marine products that are clean and in sellable condition,” said Ford who is assisted by Second Wave team members Debbie Yeend and Brian Johnson. “It is up to the consignor to make sure items are clean prior consignment.”

Ford, who formerly managed the West Marine store in Gig Harbor and most recently, the larger store in Fife, recommends that people wishing to consign their used marine equipment call the store first to make sure the items fit what staff is looking for.

“It really is better to call or come by and have a conversation with us first,” said Ford as he, Yeend and Johnson worked to catalog items already collected this week.

Store and Repair Shop Grand Opening Coming Soon

Second WaveAll items up for consignment must be clean, complete, in working order and within their usable lifespan, according to Second Wave’s list of guidelines for consignors.

The store will not accept such things as batteries, various electrical items such as shore power cords, certain plumbing and safety equipment, dive and snorkeling equipment and vessels over 12 feet in length, to name a few.

For more information, though, sellers are encouraged to call and talk specifics about items they are considering consigning.

Store Manager Ford is looking forward to bringing this marine repair and consignment service to the Gig Harbor area.

“As I understand, this type of store has never been in Gig Harbor,” he said. “We will reach out with regional marketing to let our customers know they can travel by car or, to enhance their shopping experience, by boat to visit and shop at Second Wave @ the Boatyard.”

Second Wave @ the Boatyard is a revival of the original Second Wave marine consignment store that operated for several years in Seattle’s Fremont district. The Lake Union store closed its doors in 2014 to make room for luxury condominiums and now its former manager, Patti Segulja-Lau, is consulting with boatyard staff on launching the new store in Gig Harbor.

“This store will have a different atmosphere than a typical retail store,” said Ford. “Here, you’re recycling a product and that helps the environment.”

So, boaters, start sorting through your trove of excess boating stuff and give us a call about consigning it. Second Wave @ the Boatyard marine repair and consignment will be open soon to help others find your buried treasure.
