silk & wool workshopKyrgyz-Konnection creates authentic hats, scarves and other wearable art in a traditional style from the country of Kyrgyzstan. For the past eight years Cholpon Djumabaeva and Jon Ortgiesen have traveled across the United States selling their hand-crafted products at art shows, county fairs, farmers markets and festivals. Now they are sharing their techniques for creating these beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces at Silk & Wool Workshops coming to The Academy @ the Boatyard in October.

Cholpon and Jon will provide all the materials, including wool hand-picked by local farmers. They prepare the wool and felt it for making their products, and they also buy already felted wool. Their designs involve an artistic combination of machine chain stitch and hand stitching.

Read more on the Kyrgyz-Konnection website about their business, how they got started and about their gorgeous silk and wool products — including custom-made items such as wool hats and scarfs to match favorite sports team colors.
