Celebrate Creativity at Chalk the Harbor 2026!
Every year, the downtown waterfront undergoes a stunning, temporary transformation – and if you’ve ever walked down Harborview Drive during Chalk the Harbor & Waterfront Art Walk, you know just how magical it is. Hosted by our fantastic friends and organizers in the local arts community, this weekend (August 15) our humble sidewalks get turned into a sweeping, open-air gallery full of vibrant color with this free, family-friendly tradition.
Whether you’re picking up a piece of chalk, admiring a local artisan at work, or simply enjoying a stroll along the docks, it’s one of the absolute best days to experience the heart, culture, and community spirit of Gig Harbor.
From Skansie Brothers Park all the way down the waterfront, the district will be buzzing with live demonstrations, hands-on projects, and music. The Chalk Art Contest invites you to claim your sidewalk canvas by registering between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM at Skansie Brothers Park, where free chalk is provided. Simply snap a photo of your finished piece and submit it by 3:00 PM to enter for prizes across youth, teen, family, adult, and group categories. Over at the Skansie pavilion, you can watch nationally acclaimed featured artist Raziah Roushan craft a massive, maritime-themed chalk mural in real time. Nearby in Skansie Park, Puget Sound Glass Blowing’s Mobile Hot Shop will turn molten glass into intricate art right before your eyes.
The creative energy flows throughout the entire harbor with even more interactive stops. You can leave your mark on Gig Harbor’s history through the “Buoy Oh Buoy” community project by painting a maritime tag to attach to a network of fishing floats and netting donated by a local fishing family. Participating waterfront businesses will also host live artist demos, while the Harborview Village Arts Corner features student performances at Con Brio Piano Studio and custom keepsake magnet frames at MD Studio. To round out the celebration, enjoy music all day long capped off by a brand-new Community Performing Arts Showcase featuring local musicians, dancers, and theater groups.
With so much happening right along the water, a vibrant day downtown calls for a great launching pad. Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard is proud to be part of the historic, bustling backdrop that makes events like this so special. As you meander along Harborview Drive taking in the chalk murals and harbor views, stop by to soak in the marina atmosphere. Whether you’re stopping in to explore our upgraded upstairs product showroom, admiring the fleet, or simply enjoying the best view of the water, we love welcoming friends, families, and visiting artists to our corner of the harbor.
Mark your calendars for next weekend, bring your creative energy, and we’ll see you down on the waterfront!
