Gig Harbor Marina and Boatyard Policies
1We discourage DIYers as we are not insured to cover DIY projects. Please take the time to understand Washington State law and Federal law (NPDES). As well as our own yard policies before deciding to do the project yourself or enlist our help.
Washington State Law
It is the law that haulout and repair facilities contain or eliminate their pollutants, which, of course are just about everything associated with boat repair and maintenance. The National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) General Permit for Boat Yards has set forth new stringent regulations on how yards operate. The NPDES permit requires all yards, such as ours, to install and maintain wastewater and stormwater treatment systems. This equipment allows us to catch, pump and treat pressure wash water and all the toxins released from antifouling coatings such as copper, zinc, lead, tin and other suspended or dissolved solids considered hazardous. It is important that you do the following to assure we continue to keep the yard clean:
- Only Yard Personell are allowed to perfom any and all sanding of your boat.
- Any oil, antifreeze, solvents, or contaminated fuel must be disposed of properly. See yard office for local Gig Harbor/Tacoma locations.
- No bilge pumping or discharge of sewage or other waste is allowed.
- Rollers, brushes, empty paint cans and other allied materials must be dry before disposal in our dumpster.
- All bottom painting must be performed by Gig Harbor Marina personnel only.
Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard Policies
The following additional policies also apply:
- You may not employ any painters or other tradesmen to work on your boat unless that person has been first approved by us and has provided us with a copy of their business license and certificate of liability insurance. We do not allow contractors to paint vessels.
- Please do not use Gig Harbor Marina’s tools, workshops, ladders, staging, planks, trestles or any other equipment except by permission from the yard office. If permission is given these items will be used in a safe, acceptable manner at your own risk and will be put back in their proper places.
- Please park your vehicles only in a designated parking place. Make sure that your parking permits/stickers are visible.
- You assume full responsibility and obligation to pay any fines or other charges from any local, state or federal government agency levied against you or the Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard due to boat owner activities while in storage at Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard.
- No boat supports or blocking put in place by our yard crew may be moved or adjusted {If these requirements are violated, you will be charged $1000.00, payable before your boat is put back in the water}.
- Sandblasting or spray painting hulls is not allowed.
