The Wait is Over: Summer Sounds is Back!
There are few things that scream summer in Gig Harbor quite like live music drifting across the harbor, kids dancing barefoot in the grass, boats bobbing in the marina, and that magical moment when the sun starts to set behind Skansie Brothers Park.
Translation? Summer Sounds is back!
Beginning Tuesday, July 7, Gig Harbor’s beloved waterfront concert series returns every Tuesday at 6pm with eight weeks of free live music, community vibes, and plenty of reasons to leave the dishes in the sink. This year’s lineup celebrates everything from patriotic favorites to rock legends, dance hits, and crowd-pleasing tribute bands, making every Tuesday feel like a mini vacation.
The Smart Way to Concert Like a Local
Sure, you could rust to the park at the last minute and hope for parking.
Or…
You could do it the Gig Harbor way.
Start your evening at The Trolley @ the Boatyard, just steps from the waterfront. Grab dinner before the crowds roll in, sip something refreshing, and avoid the inevitable “What should we eat?” debate that somehow starts every family outing. Whether you’re craving a juicy burger, crispy fish and chips, fresh salads, or one of The Trolley’s local favorites, fueling up before the music starts means more time relaxing and less time standing in food lines.
Insider Tips for the Ultimate Summer Sounds Experience
A few local secrets can make a great evening even better:
- Arrive by 5pm at the latest for easier parking and a leisurely dinner.
- Bring a folding chair or blanket – your future self will thank you.
- Don’t forget sunscreen for the early evening and a light sweatshirt once the harbor breeze rolls in.
- Kids? Bring them! Dancing in front of the stage is practically a Summer Sounds tradition.
- Stay after the concert and enjoy a waterfront stroll while the crowds thin out.
- And yes…ice cream afterward is basically mandatory. It’s summer.
Who’s Taking the Stage This Year?
This year’s lineup offers something for just about every musical taste:
July 7: 133d Army Band – A patriotic kickoff celebrating America’s 250th anniversary with high-energy military concert.
July 14: Chicago Transit Experience – Love Chicago? Expect soaring horns, classic hits, and plenty of sing-alongs. Most important – don’t forget your dancing shoes!
July 21: The Shy Boys and a Girl – Gig Harbor’s own favorite cover band take the stage with an eclectic playlist that jumps from Jimmy Buffett to Survivor to Garth Brooks. Translation: everyone in your group will hear a favorite.
July 28: Boogie Boulevard – Disco lives! Funk, glitter, and dancing. Stretch beforehand – you’ve been warned.
August 4: The Mixed Tape – Back by popular demand, this local favorite blends country, pop, rock, and R&B into one high-energy show. If you missed them last year, don’t make that mistake twice!
August 11: Hair Nation – Big hair. Bigger guitar solos. The Northwest’s premier ’80s rock tribute band brings all the arena-rock anthems you secretly still know every word to.
August 18: Brian James Was Here – Country fans, this one’s for you. Expect a mix of original music and country favorites from Brian James and his band, straight out of Washington’s own Grays Harbor County.
August 25: Non Jovi – This summer finale belongs to Bon Jovi fans. Non Jovi closes out the season with a high-energy tribute packed with arena classics guaranteed to have the crowd singing “Livin’ on a Prayer” (hopefully on key) at the top of their lungs!
Make Tuesdays Your New Tradition
Summer has a funny way of flying by.
One minute you’re saying you’ll make it to a concert “one of these weeks,” and the next you’re wondering where August went. This year, make Tuesday nights a tradition. Meet friends. Bring the family. Grab dinner at The Trolley @ the Boatyard. Wander down to the waterfront. Listen to great music. Watch the sunset.
Because honestly, that’s about as Gig Harbor as summer gets.
See you at the show!
