Savoring the Last of Summer

Who says summer has to go quietly?

Sure, school supplies are filling store aisles and yellow buses will soon take over the roads as the Peninsula School District gears up for September 2 – and yes, PNW autumn is right around the corner, ready to storm in with pumpkin spice everything. But August isn’t over yet! We still have two glorious, sun-drenched weeks left to soak up the salt air, stay out past sunset, and squeeze every last drop of golden magic out of the season. Late August brings some of the absolute best boating weather of the entire year, with glass-like waters, warm afternoon breezes, and a harbor brimming with energy.

The downtown waterfront is buzzing, and there is no shortage of local festivities to fill your final summer afternoons. Grab your lawn chairs or tie off at the docks – the final Summer Sounds at Skansie is going out with a bang! Catch local favorites Non Jovi, the ultimate Bon Jovi tribute band, closing out the series in high gear on Tuesday, August 25. The Waterfront Farmers Market wraps up its season on August 27, so head to Skansie Brothers Park this week and next to stock up and support our local farmers and artisans!

If you don’t have your own boat, rent a couple of kayaks or paddleboards to journey through the harbor – maybe even pack a picnic for the beach at the lighthouse. Be sure to time it for high tide, or you’ll be in for a steep hike up the beach…and don’t forget to wave as you pass the marina! Paddling along the quiet shoreline as the afternoon light turns to gold is one of the best ways to experience the bay. Or escape for a spontaneous waterfront staycation in one of our Fleet Suites – our custom yacht accommodations docked right in the heart of downtown – where you can sip morning coffee over mist on the bay and spend your evenings stargazing on deck.

While you’re squeezing in those final sunset cruises, it’s also the sweet spot to ease your vessel into its off-season rhythm. Schedule a haul-out and hull cleaning with our yard crew to scrub away late-summer marine growth and take advantage of the remaining dry weather with topside detailing to touch up deck wear. Most importantly, lock in your off-season boat storage spot now to beat the late-fall winterization rush. We have limited boat/dry storage slots available.

Ready to book a late-summer stay, schedule yard service, or secure your off-season boat storage? Give our office a call, stop by downtown, or reach out online – we’re here to keep your summer high going strong!

Catch as many sunrays as you can before the autumn winds steer the clouds in!
