Unleash the Fun with Harbor Hounds 2026!
There is a distinct kind of magic that settles over the water when dozens of golden retrievers, dachshunds, and rescue pups take over the harbor. If your idea of a perfect afternoon involves crisp salt air, cold brew or local cider in hand, and watching a floppy-eared mutt attempt a very dramatic “Musical Sit & Stay,” then clear your schedule for Harbor Hounds on Saturday, September 12 between 10 am – 2 pm located at Skansie Brothers Park.
Brought to us by the Rotary Club of Gig Harbor Midday, this annual dog festival is equal parts chaotic joy and genuine waterfront warmth. It’s the kind of event where total strangers bond over organic dog treats, and where our little corner of the Sound feels less like a pin on a map and more like one big, shared backyard.
The dog contests are easily the soul of the day. From Best Kisser to Best Tail Wagger, these aren’t your rigid Westminster-style agility trials. Expect plenty of enthusiastic barking, minor costume malfunctions, and pure, unfiltered silliness as local pups compete for trophies and bragging rights. Between events, you can wander through the vendor marketplace for the Scavenger Hunt by collecting stamps for a chance at a $100+ grand prize package. Pre-registering online gets you into the VIP line for a Wag Bag packed with a commemorative bandana and $150+ in pet goodies, while kids can get temporary puppy tattoos and face paint while the DJ keeps the energy high.
Best of all, this party has a purpose. Every single dollar raised goes straight to the Midday Charity Foundation to fund local 24/7 Little Food Pantries, FoodBackpacks4Kids, high school scholarships, and the Prison Pet Partnership.
If you’re bringing your boat into Gig Harbor Marina & Boatyard for the weekend or just strolling down the harbor boardwalk from the marina side, it’s a quick, picturesque walk straight into the heart of Skansie Park. You can tie up, grab a coffee, walk your pup down the plank, and wander right into the middle of the festivities.
